Standing in the heart of the desert for centuries, Jaisalmer is one of the most exotic cities of India. Even its name evokes in us a vivid picture of utter magic and brilliance of the desert. Founded by Bhatti Rajput chieftain Rawal Jaisal in 1156, the city today is the personification of the old order influence the new. It's battle- scarred forts, its palaces of breathtaking grandeur and whimsical charm and the romantic sense of pride and honour makes Jaisalmer a perfect place to wander.

Jaisalmer Fort - One of the main draws is the daunting 12th century Jaisalmer Fort or the Sonar Quila. The Jaisalmer Fort commands the desertscape from its 250 feet high perch on the hill and offers a splendid sight i the afternoon sun. The fort is a a part of the desert citadel and walking up and down the lanes, one gets the feeling of a a different age all together.

Palaces in the Jaisalmer Fort - The majestic Jaisalmer Fort has five palaces called the Sarvottam Vilas, Akhai Vilas , Gaj Mahal, Rang Mahal and Moti Mahal. The Rang Mahal has some exquisite murals painted on the arches and spandrels.

Nathmal Haveli - The Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli was built by built by two architect brothers in the 19 th century. Beautiful paintings in miniature style monopolise the walls in the interior. The stone carvings in the haveli is absolutely flawless and outstanding.

Patwon Ki Haveli - This is one of the most elaborate havelis of Jaisalmer. The haveli is five storeyed high and is extensively carved exhibiting the superb craftsmanship. The delicately ornamented balconies leave the tourists spellbound and captivated. Patwon Ki Haveli showcases the architectural wealth of Jaisalmer.

Salim Singh Ki Haveli - Built about 300 years ago, the Salim Singh Ki Haveli is the pride of the Jaiaslmer architecture and a national heritage. The haveli has superbly carved brackets in the form of peacocks.

Gadsisar Lake - Built by Maharawal Gadsi in the 14th century, Gadsisar Lake is one of the major tourists spots of India. The lake is thronged by a wide variety of water birds during winters.

Tazia Tower - The Tazia Tower is of great historical significance. Each storey of the Tower is delicately graced by a balcony.

Desert National Park - The Desert National Park is 40 km from the city. The forest is adorned with craggy rocks and compact salt lake bottoms which serve as a hot spot for Chinkara and Blackbuck. The other key fauna of the park are Desert Fox, Bengal Fox, wolf and desert cat.

Picturesque Sand Dunes - Travel to Jaisalmer is very much incomplete without a visit to the fascinating sand dunes. The ripples create an enchanting mirage , which is a visual illusion of extraordinary splendour. One can be mesmerised at the sight of the shifting of the dunes and sun rise and sunset.
